rocketry: useful stuff: certification

On this part of my site you can find out how to go about getting yourself certified for flying high power rockets in the UK. I've detailed what you need to do to get yourself an explosives certificate and store so you can legally buy composite motors. I've also written a four part article that is currently being published in 10,9,8..., the UKRA newsletter, on how to go about certifying Level 1. Each part will be avaiable here after it has been published in the newsletter, so you'll just have to wait...

explosives certification

Before you can legally buy motor composite motors, i.e. Aerotech, in the UK you have to hold an Explosives Certificate. This is true even if you only want to buy Aerotech E motors, that's the law. Don't worry its not that complicated, all you need to do is fill in a couple of forms and part with a bit of cash.

ukra certification

UKRA, like it's foreign cousins NAR and Tripoli, requires that you take a certification flight to be able to fly motors of a certain impulse. Level 1 covers motors in the H & I impulse range, while Level 2 cover J, K & L motors, this leaves Level 3 to cover motors of M or above impulse. Each level is progressively harder and progressively more expensive!

I've written an article that is currently being published in 10,9,8... the UKRA newsletter, it has loads of hints and tips on how to go about certifying Level 1. It is in four sections and each section will be available after it's been published in 10,9,8....
