Rocketry

The spectatorsI have bad memories from last years K-Lob as the weather was pretty grotty and I tried 5 times to launch a rocket on a H238 and failed due to bad ignitors. So it was with fingers crossed that I attended this years event hoping for better weather and better luck with borrowed ignitors. As with last year I took two rockets along to fly and if the weather was bad another two to work on.

There was only a handful of people there when I arrived at about 10pm after a largely uneventful drive up through Peterborough and the A15. I said my hellos and stood chatting with folks for a while. I decide that I should really grab a table in the workshop that Pete had laid out, so I started to bring my rockets inside.

Streaking into the skyThings quickly progressed to us all watching rocket videos ranging from the piece that the Discovery Channel did with Dave "Top Rocketeer" Thompson, to Pete's LDRS footage from earlier in the year. It was the first time I have seen or heard a Kosdon motor or the new Pro38 stuff and I'm impressed. I'm sure I'll be even more impressed when I see them first hand and up close, the Skidmark motors look far too cool.

I managed to get an I200 from Pete so that I could prepare one of my rockets for the next day. Certainty was designed with the I200 in mind and I was surprised to find out that no one has flown one since I flew the first one in the UK in March. After prepping the motor and asking Dave Warman to fix my beeper for me there was nothing much left to do other than have a beer and watch the LDRS video. I couldn't be bothered putting my tent up so at about 3am I rolled my sleeping bag out next to the wood burner and drifted off dreaming about rockets.

26/03/04 I never got round to finishing this report, but the long and the tail of it was that I flew an I200 and an I300 and had a good weekend...
