Lazy Git

So I'm a lazy git and don't post updates enough; it's not because I don't want to, it's just with work and training I can't be arsed most of the time. Sometimes I get half way through writing an entry and just hit the back button, as I can't be arsed to finish it. I'd rather be out training, well, I'd rather be anywhere than at work I think...

So I've been a busy bee over the last few weeks, I've trained every morning except two; my parents were visiting and I went to London. While in London I visited ProFeet and got a couple of custom footbeds made for my running and cycling shoes. I can honestly say they have transformed my running; can't wait for a chance to get out on my bike and try them in my new cycling shoes as well.

Finlay is growing up really fast; he's now on three square meals a day and is crawling everywhere. Gone are the days where you could plonk him down, pop into the kitchen/bathroom/bedroom and he'd still be there. He's also got two teeth and likes vegetables, which is good.

Finally I'm of to Prauge with work this weekend for the annual Christmas jolly; I've never been and am really looking forward to it. I'm planning on taking my big pinhole camera, so it should be an interesting trip.

Club Swim Session

I went to my first tri club swim session for over a month this morning and it wasn't too bad. I was the only one in the fast lane, which was a bit of a help in many ways as it meant I didn't have to try and keep up with faster swimmers. On the down side, it is a bit boring just ploughing up and down on your own though.

On the plus side, things were much easier today and I managed to hold 1:30 pace (one minute thirty seconds per hundred metres) for a set of 6 x 300m front crawl pull. Plus I managed to do the full set of 3.7Km with five minutes to spare on the clock.

I totally forgot to take my fins though, which I will have to remember on Saturday, as I had to replace a 400m kick set with various drills. Other than that, it looks like I'm making progress as it was a lot easier today; I'm sure it's just a case of time and effort and I'll faster in no time.

Getting Referred

Went to see the doctor this evening to try and get a referral to see a specialist about my feet. I've been getting increasingly concerned that I'm doing myself damage when I go out running and cycling. It all stems from the video gait analysis I had done earlier in the year, which highlighted that I over pronate and thus my arch can collapse pulling stuff out of alignment and causing pain.

After the run on Tuesday I decided that I should maybe try and see a specialist and get advise on wearing orthics full time. I stopped getting knee pain when I got moulded insoles for both my ski and mountaineering boots and so I'm thinking I might not get any pain if I wear insoles permanently.

The main reason for going to see someone is that I haven't got a clue if I'm just being paranoid, or if I really have a problem. So now that the doctor referred my to the Sports Injury Clinic at Adenbrookes, we'll find out in due course.

Sore Thighs

Oh my word, my thighs are totally seizing up! They weren't that bad after the swim this morning, but after sitting on my arse at work all day they totally gone to pot. I could hardly walk down the stairs to leave they were so painful. Hope I haven't knackered them in any way.

Swimming

Went back to the pool this morning for another session and was unsurprised at how much of a struggle it was. I managed to go a full hundred metres further than Monday and I managed to hold my pace for longer, but other than that it was still hard work.

Running

Went for a short run today to make sure that my legs are up to it after having October off. I went round most of my usual circuit, but cut it a bit short, as I didn't want to push it too far. So in total I was only running for just twenty minutes, which was probably long enough.
