Snow

It's snowing, but it's too warm and too wet for it to settle. Bit disapointing really as I wouldn't mind getting out with the camera to take some motre photos in snow.

ProActive

Had my final testing session for the ProActive study into Type II diabetes this morning, at the hospital in Ely. Like last time it involved various body measurements and then some light exercise on a treadmill. I'll get to find out what all my measurements are at the end of the study, which will be around the end of the year.

Since starting the study, I've gone from being a lazy sod, to being not quite so lazy, in fact I'm going swimming three times a week (sometimes it's only twice, depends). Judging by the fact that my resting heart rate has dropped into the low forties, yes low forties, it turns out I'm quite fit.

While on the treadmill the lady doing all my measurements had to go and make a phone call as my oxygen absorption level were very, very high. Evidently level like that are normally reserved for people who have been training at altitude! It'll be interesting to see the full results from my final test and to see if I can keep them at a good level.

Kilt Cloth Update...

Just had a phone call from the kilt man again. Evidently the mill are really sorry, but they've found the missing cloth, so we will be able to get our kilts in the heavy weight tartan after all. So that's a bit of a relief...

More Gas...

Woke up late this morning at around 07.55, so I had to get changed really quickly if I stood any change of getting to the swimming pool. I got out he door at around 08.05 only to find the gas man delivering our next load, so I wouldn't be able to get out until he'd finished.

I lent a hand, so that he'd be finished quicker, but we discovered that one of the pig's ears from the regulator is leaking. So we've now got four cylinders, although only two are turned on and I'll have to manually move them over when we run out in a couple of weeks. So now I've got to phone a Corgi registered gas man to come out and fit a new set of pig's ears...

The Crown & Punchbowl

Went out for lunch today with people from work, we went to The Crown & Punchbowl in Horningsea. I'd heard that it had changed hands and been done up and was now more of a gastro-pub than a straight pub. The décor was really nice and I can confirm that it is really a gastro-pub rather than a pub.

The lunch menu was quite compact, but it is backed up by the fresh fish board and the sausage and mash matrix. None of the sausages were vegetarian or vegan and I think I'm going to make more of an effort to not eat fish again, so that left just the main menu for me to choose from.

As I still eat eggs I plumped for the wilted spinach and poached egg with red pepper coils started, which sounded nice. Main courser was a bit tricky as there were only two vegetarian options on the menu, one which was covered in dairy the other had filo pastry held together with a little butter.

I ended up deciding that a little butter wouldn't kill me so I had the pumpkin curry in filo pastry on some of sort of aubergine stuff (I can't remember what they called it). It was really, really nice and the aubergine stuff was quite nice too as you couldn't tell it was aubergine.

I washed it all down with a pint of Hobson's Choice which was very fruity, although I think it was getting near to the end of its life. It's good to see somewhere selling good real ale with food, it's just a shame they only had one beer. I suppose they are more restaurant than pub, so they need to be commended for having any real ale at all, but it would have been nice to have a choice.

No motivation

I keep meaning to put stuff here, but I just can't be arsed. I'm going through a low motivation period at the moment...

No Gas...

Got home from work this evening to find that we'd run out of gas. Karen had been making some pancakes when the gas had run out, how inconvenient. So now we're going to be without heat, hot water or anything to cook on for the next few days until a delivery turns up.

Kilt Cloth...

Had a phone call from the kilt man today to let me know that the mill have cocked up and they don't actually have the cloth that we're after. When Ian and I were in getting fitted up for our kilts, we decided to go for the 16oz heavy weight cloth; it should last longer and be more durable etc.

So the mill were contacted and they said they had loads of it, so no problems there. The kilt man gave them a phone to chase up the order only to be told that they couldn't find the cloth. They put it down to a computer fault, claiming that the 300m that appeared on the computer was obviously a glitch.

So now Ian and I need to decide to either go for the lighter weight cloth in the same tartan, or to try and source it from some where else. Neither of us is particularly amused with the mill...
