I'm feeling like a right lard arse today, I think it's due to not going swimming yesterday as the arm is still a tad sore from the jabs on Tuesday. I'm quite surprised at how painful the jabs have turned out to be, I certainly wasn't expecting it to last so long. I'm not sure I'll be able to go swimming tomorrow morning either, which would be a shame.
It snowed last night, not as much as last year, but still a decent covering of a few inches. They look like they've managed to avoid the chaos of last year, but the radio was reporting that they had gritted all roads so there had been a number of accidents. By the time I got to work the main roads were just slush, or wet, so it's looking like it wont be so bad. Now if it snows again this afternoon...
Went to the Doctors earlier today to see the Nurse and enquire about what jabs we needed to our honeymoon. They recommend Hepatitis A, Tetanus and Typhoid for trips to Malaysia and also Malaria prophylactics for certain jungle areas. Karen and I had discussed what jabs we though we might have and those we though there was no point in having, so this trip was really to find out if our decisions were correct.
The Nurse was very good and stressed that all the jabs were just recommendations and we were under no obligation to have them if we didn't want them. She also agreed that if we were going to a Malaria area for only one day, not getting bitten was better than taking tablets.
So in the end we both opted for Hep A and a combined Diphtheria/Tetanus jab, as they wont give you Tetanus on it's own these days. Karen took a bad turn shortly after getting her jabs and had to lie down on the examination table for a few minutes to recover. I don't get affected like that, but the jabs have given us both dead arms and I'm having really trouble typing with my left hand as my arm feels like it's gone fifteen round with Mike Tyson.
So we still have to decide if we're going to get Typhoid or not, evidently you can catch it from shell fish and I'm probably going to be eating some of that, so I'm going to have to do some research. Other wise I'm now covered for Hep A and Tetanus for another ten years, which is quite nice to know.
My wee brother came up to visit at the weekend, as we needed to be fitted for kilts. So Saturday morning it was down to Stuart at 169, Chesterton Rd in Cambridge to see what was what. We're both going for the Ancient Lindsey tartan with all the trimmings, so my Brother, Father and myself will all be in matching kilts come the wedding. The kits are on order, so we now just need to make up our minds about what sporrans, buckles, Sgian Dubh's etc...
Got Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl out on DVD last night, as Karen and I stayed in for a quiet night. I must admit that I didn't really have a real desire to go and see this at the cinema as I'd heard varying reports as to how good it was.
I wish I had seen it at the cinema now as it was absolutely hysterical! I haven't laughed so much in ages, it was an absolute hoot and Johnny Depp deserves an Oscar just for the accent alone.
It's good to see that there's life in the old pirate film genre yet. When they make the sequel, I'll definitely be going to see it at the cinema.
Happy New Year! Like most of the country my Hogmanay celebrations were a wee bit curtailed due to Karen and I both suffering from a nasty bout of the cold. We were supposed to go to a party thrown by a couple of friends, but instead we were both tucked up under duvets on the sofa watching mildly amusing telly.
To compensate for the fact that I wasn't going out, I decided to buy some nice beer. Shame I didn't look at the ABV on all the labels and ended up with a load of beer in the 6-10% range. After five bottles of that I was totally plastered and finally managed to stumble off to bed just after three in the morning. Just because we were both ill, didn't mean we couldn't enjoy ourselves...
So yesterday was a bit of a chore until the headache had worn off, which happened in the late afternoon. The vast majority of the day was spent on the sofa under the duvet blowing my nose and scaring the cats with each sneeze. Light relief was offered by watching Moonraker and then actually watching Grease, Karen had the right idea here and fell asleep.
So it was a bit of a quiet New Year for a change and it feels quite strange sitting at work for a single day before the weekend. It feels like a Monday today, although at the same time it doesn't feel like any day as my cold is stopping my brain working.
I might get round to putting a up a few New Year resolutions, just so I actually stick to them, or maybe I might not. Anyway, have a great New Year; it's definitely going to be a good one.

hey!
