Training

As it was Easter weekend and thus I had two extra days (Good Friday and Easter Monday), I decided that it was time to step up the training. I started off with a 19 mile bike ride on Friday, followed by the same 19 mile bike ride and a brick run on the Sunday.

Stupidly I didn't write down the statistics from the first bike ride, but I've got the ones from the second. It turns out that the circuit I do round a few of the local villages corresponds nicely, it's only a mile and a bit shorter, than the 35km leg of the Bedford Sprint Series bike legs.

The brick run was quite interesting as I've not got a clue how far I went or how long it took; I really need to get a digital watch or a cheap heart rate monitor. The first couple of hundred metres were bizarre, my thighs obviously though I was still cycling, but the rest of my body knew I was upright.

I think I need to do quite a few more brick runs over the next few weekends to get used to the feeling. Hopefully next weekend I'll cycle to Elsworth via some of the villages, have a rest at the EARS rocket launch and cycle back.

The thing that got me the most about the two rides was that I used to do this circuit in under an hour, so with an average speed of over 19mph. I knew I was taking it easy so not to injure myself, but I think I'm going to have to speed up a little.

Sats Friday
Time 1h 10m ??s
Distance 19.?? miles
Average Speed 16.? mph
Maximum speed 28.? mph
Sats Sunday
Time 1h 8m 57s
Distance 19.43 miles
Average Speed 16.9 mph
Maximum speed 33.9 mph
